One of the Territory’s most epic celebrations is nearly here, and Australian blues rock royalty, Joe Camilleri & The Black Sorrows, will lead the charge, performing at the Mindil Beach Territory Day event.
They will be joined on the line-up by the Territory’s own Wildfire Manwurrk, a young Arnhem Land band taking the music world by storm. The Battle of the School Bands winners will also have their time to shine, with Nhulunbuy High School’s QWYA and Casuarina Secondary College duo Reverie taking to the stage.
The famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets will kick off at 4pm, and an F-35A flyover and unmissable fireworks display will complete the event on Saturday, 1 July 2023.
Events elsewhere are also providing exciting opportunities. Alice Springs will feature a Colour Frenzy fun run and local rock ‘n’ roll duo Wolfpack Amadeus; the Tennant Creek crew will enjoy performances from the home-grown WMC All Stars, Newboys and Charlie T; and the Nhulunbuy community will welcome former long-term Territory favourite Dr Elephant to the stage. The Katherine community will enjoy a music and dance party.
Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Suzana Bishop said Territory Day was one of the proudest days on the NT events calendar.
“We encourage Territorians old and new to get out and celebrate our special day and the amazing people who live here,” she said.
“There will be plenty of chances to celebrate all over the Territory, with fireworks events scheduled across the NT. So check out where your nearest celebration is and join in the fun.”
Family friendly events will take place across this vast land, from Groote Eylandt to Yulara – all with fireworks – uniting us as we celebrate this beautiful place we call home, and the people who make it such a great place to live.
The theme for this year’s Territory Day is ‘The People Make the Place’, and there is still time to enter the Territory Day competition, which is encouraging everyone to celebrate the people who make the Territory such a great place to live.
